Visit to Studley Royal – Thursday 3 May 2012
Studley Royal, including the ruins of Fountains Abbey, was designated a World Heritage Site in 1986. The Association of Gardens Trusts, in association with the Yorks GT and the National Trust, has organised a Study Day which will focus on current excavations and research, recent discoveries and interpretations.
Speakers in the morning will include Mark Newman, an Archaeological Consultant from the NT, who has spent many years investigating the history of the site and the Aislabie family. He is currently excavating the feature called Quebec.
Guided tours will follow after lunch.

James Pulham and Son
Members who came on the coach trip to Highnam Court last April may have found their interest in Pulhamite being rekindled when the owner, Mr Roger Head, DL, referred to the work undertaken by James Pulham and Son at Highnam Court. Claude Hitching has updated her website, www.pulham.org.uk, which is now entitled Pulham Legacy, Rock Gardens, Ferneries, Follies, Grottoes and Fountains. There she announces the completion of her book and its publication . The ‘Where?’ tab of the website ‘leads to a set of Regional Gazetteers of some of the most important Pulham sites. The top tab is “Site of the Month” which will feature a review of one of the Pulhams’ gardens for which space was not available in the book itself.’
